LHH,

Sounds like the dreaded broken dash anchors.

You'll have to remove the complete dash and repair/remold the anchors (nut retainers).

There are several posts about doing this and Matthew's Volvo Site has the step by step process for removal under evaporator repair.

I've posted about my experience. Check the archives.
