Thanks. I'll try to get out the sponges and buckets and do the fuel rail as soon as I can get the chance (probably the weekend, so I can do it in guaranteed daylight, no matter how long it takes me). Meantime, a couple of related questions: 1. If the injector goes click, click, click, and there is unburned fuel to cause a problem with the cat, the odds are that the injector is working? Or is there yet something else to diagnose re the injectors?
2. Since the #2 cylinder is not firing, for whatever reason, what chances of increased or new damage would be present if I just unplugged the connections to the # 2 injector for the drive to the dealer if necessary? Would that stop the injection, or is the injector a "normally-on" mechanism?
The parts guy at the dealer has offered to sell me an ignition coil and take it back if it doesn't change anything, but I don't see the point in putting him to the trouble since I've already swapped them , cleared codes, and had no difference. He's checking the price for a control module (and I'm looking into chattel mortgages...)
p.s unrelated item: what are you shooting in .308? Know anybody who wants a commercial Mauser 30-06 sporter?
