122 vent window seal question 120-130 1965

Hey guys. New to the forum. Question about '65 122 front vent window seal replacement... I read the previous post on the same issue... concerning removing the 4 shaped frame.... but try as I may I cannot seem to free it from the door. Do I have to take the door apart? It seems to be held in by the three screw on the top of the door, which I removed, the one bolt accessed through the circular cut out in the face of the door, which I also removed... and the rest has me scatching my head and cursing. Is there one I'm missing? An invisible one? The magic bolt? I don't have a shop manual. Not yet. Soon. Any one have any tips aside from "buy the manual already"? Thanks!

122 vent window seal question 120-130 1965

I just did this on the weekend. The frame is built together with the front window channel so it all comes out together. My 66 had 3 screws on top through the door frame, two screws at the base and one at the bottom of the window channel through an access hole in the door. You also have to remove the window channel in the top of the door or you won't be able to tilt the frame back to get it out. This is just a push fit in the door so you can prise it out with a screwdriver. You don't need to take the window glass out just lower the window and leave it there. Once you have the vent frame out you can see that the triangle seal is riveted to the frame so you have to prise out the runner in the channel opposite and drill out the rivets. My runner was so rusted it fell to bits but I found a suitable replacement at my rubber supply store for $8/mtr. You also need to take out the vent window from it's frame by taking off the nut, spring & washers and drilling out the rivet that it pivots on. As they say, reassemble in reverse order but you will need to guide the window glass back into the runner when you drop the frame back into the door. Hope this helps.

There's one more screw, which holds the lowermost end of the window channel piece to the door. Once you undo this screw, remove the rollup window from the tracks (you don't need to remove it from the door, just get it out of the tracks - or ignore it, and it'll fall out as you're trying to remove the vent window frame). THEN you can tip the top of the wing window frame aft and wiggle it out of the door.

Reassembly is (heh) the opposite of removal.

Best,

122 vent window seal question 120-130 1965

Are you looking at removing the entire chrome surround for the triangular window?
If so, you'll need to open up the door and deal with the dreaded "omega' clips on the window and door handles. There's a bolt or two down in the bowls of the door. I just did something similar with an 1800E and it wasnt too bad.

I'm not sure you need to got that far, but I've got no info on how to do it, other than I need to do it myself before that whistling noise drives me nuts! So, please let us know.

Hi, and thanks. The omega clips are the little "c" shaped guys right? yeah I took those off to take off the door panel, which I'm rebuilding and upolstering. So the door is now bare metal, and I can look all inside and feel around. It's just kinda mysterious. In the end I need to have the entire triangular window out of its border , because the new rubber seal, once installed, has to be punctured essentially by the swivel/axis point of the window... know what I mean? And the older seal is rivited to the 4 shaped devil. Simple yet complicated. I'll keep looking/trying. Thanks!
