Greetings,
Well i've run into my first official "issue" with the recently acquired 142('73). The alternator is a bosch unit. Symptoms are as follows. Amp light fully illuminated when vehicle is off. Dims a bit while running but never goes away. I see approximately 10-11 volts on voltmeter. Battery itself is brand new(less than 2 hours running on it). Bypassed the voltage regulator per instruction by local Volvo buddy. Voltage did not increase and alternator started smoking(test quickly halted, lol). I unfortunately don't have a multimeter at the house so I can't test amperage. Belt tension seems ok. At this point im assuming its either a) a bad alternator or b) a faulty ground either at the alternator or at the battery. Has anyone run into a similar issue? The car is great other than this issue. I've tried locating a rebuilt bosch unit online without success. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
regards,
Matt
