Charging system woes 140-160

If the amp light is on when the engine is off but the key is on, that's normal; and your glowing light while running likely indicates a low charge.

If the amp light is on when the key is switched to the "off" position, your alternator has a failed 'rectifier diode.' This must be replaced, which is tricky and calls for at least a partial rebuild. Or replacement with a like unit; or a conversion to the Delco setup.
