Don't know if this applies to 940...
I had same code problem on my 89 240 (LH2.4) last month.

Code finally went away after swapping main fuel pump(for an older one) and replacing the fuel line check valve. I'm told the check valve is only to improve hot starts, so I must assume the fuel pump was weak.
