BW35 no 2-3 shift 140-160 1974

Do #1 definately, and not just according to the plastic been on the cable. By now the cable has stretched a lot and the plastic been is not in the correct place any more.

Not sure about #2 for the BW35, maybe more for the modern transmissions with complex valve bodies. Firstly I would check that you've got the correct transmission fluid in there. If you don't know the exact history and garages that worked on it, you just don't know if the fluid is correct or what else might be in there.
