In my first posting trying to help you analyse the situation, I gave specific information and advice, but the descriptions of your findings "everything went dead", and actions..."did some fiddling..." and speculations "maybe the ignition switch....or there is a short somewhere" are technicaly useless...if you my help, you will have to do better than that...
