I was a consultant on the Grassroots 122 project. The reason they were having fuel heating problems is because they had the wrong heat shields -- the two little separate ones for HIF carbs, not the single big one for HS6. The insulating spacers alone did not cure it.

I've never used those insulators on any Volvo with a proper heat shield. I have found them useful on some British cars. I very much doubt the lack of them in this case is causing the problem.
