I plan to check the odometer next weekend - against the GPS. They don't have mile markers here in New Zealand. They used to have 5 km odometer check markers scattered around the countryside but they seem to be a thing of the past now. The GPS seems to be a good accurate way of doing things.
To me it is more important to know what the error is rather than trying to correct it. It is good to know that the odometer and speedometer are independent. If I find that the odometer is OK, then clearly the speedo spring needs adjusting. If they are both in error by a similar ratio then I need to look at gearing from the Overdrive speedo output.
It looks like your post is going to be of use to a few others as well.
Thanks
Neil
