I use Microsoft streets & trips with my laptop. A bit clumsy, but it was only $59 with the GPS reciever (on sale) so I couldn't complain. I already had a laptop.

It has good resolution and shows the roads well in some unlikely places (like the black hills of SD) but Wyoming roads left much to be desired...it's fine here in the east - I have yet to encounter a problem.
