Yeah, this is not a complete electrical failure, everything works, car cranks and such but spark is prevented.
The one time I was able to examine the problem in the driveway, I found no pulse at all from the coil. I think I've traced that to either the ignition switch itself or the coil + wire.
My setup has a blue bosch coil with a normal + terminal instead of the armored + cable from the switch to the coil. There's a connector in the line there for easier service and most of the original armored cable is gone.
This is the most suspicious part of the whole system and is my prime suspect for the moment...
