You have to replace the hose clamps on the lower hose with the same torx head clamps. Yes mine also faced the firewall. They were a PITA. Yes the lower steel lined hose is a much better design. So was the o-ring. The silicone style looked much beefier than the disintegrated rubber one I removed.
I though about removing the intake but there just seemed to be to much other stuff in the way for me to break so I opted for the alternator surgery entry-point.
