Is there any similarity to the problems that BoostedRex was (is still?) having? The problem there seemed to be caused by the breather across the engine to the manifold central nipple, a, not having the correct PCV and b. not having the correct constriction in the nipple. That gave, in effect, a large air leak which killed the vacuum and made for a weak mixture. It appeared that the combination made setting the tickover mixture impossible.
If the butterfly valves are working correctly I'd think they should be OK but personally I'd replace the butterfly disc with a solid one. I'd defer to Rhys's view though if different.
