Hello Derek:
VERY good advice. I turned it down a full 12 flats. Still no start. Then I put on the air filters. LIFE! Choppy, so I checked the idle screws. They were too aggressive so I backed them off all the way then engaged them 1/2 turn - better yet. Adding any throttle at all killed it right away, but it did restart and after it got a bit warm I was able to add throttle. I will do a full balancing with the unidyne tomorrow morning but help me out here:
Having to turn down the jets that far means it was not getting enough gas.
Adding the air filters meant I was cutting the airflow so that is making it even richer, correct?
So in all likelihood, if I want this thing to run without air filters I probably have to turn down the jets even a bit more. And of course, use the choke although that did not seem to help. I will check the linkage.
Thanks for all of your help folks. The good news is that ignition is good, and my marriage is saved - for now.
Cheers,
Pooch
