"I've heard of (but only secondhand) people using an oxy-acetylene torch to melt out a stud." --- I think people mean to blow a stud out of a cast iron surrounding (like the stud holding the down pipe to the exhaust manifold). This method will melt the alum head although I do not have first hand experience. Eriwn
