Still puzzled by your description. On a properly working tranny converter lockup occurs only in 4th gear at speed 46mph and is barely noticeable with a slight 100rpm or so drop. It remains in 4th, it does not leave 4th gear unless you downshift to 3rd.
Do you mean that it is shifting out of OD (which really means 4th gear) down to 3rd.
