Yes, but does it do anything other than create more noise and let more dirt into the engine?

The stock intake system is hardly restrictive, and the stock intake manifold (B23 and newer engines) flows quite well.

If you're looking to improve the intake on an intercooled B21FT, the B23/B230 manifold is a pretty easy fit (easier yet if you feel comfortable creating the intake ducting yourself) and does flow better than the B21FT mani5old *and* it allows easier access to stuff.
