Hi Don,
I think I have narrowed it down to a fuel related problem. When initially I was workin against a broken disributer and a sketchy intermittantly working rpm sensor. Now I have fixed those, I am going to repeat the troubleshooting steps focusing on the fuel delivery system. Troubleshooting is tough when multiple culprits are combined.
