It has me puzzled, any ideas? 700 1990

Sounds like a possible case of "Lawn Mower Syndrome", but not sure that it is common on the red engines. How far did you drive to lunch? Just a couple of blocks would be my guess.

Repeated short trips can cause a buildup on the valves and they don't close properly and therefore no compression. The short trips are key to this problem in that the engine never warms up enough to remove the deposit. Hence the name "Lawn Mower Syndrome". Move the car out of the garage, get the lawn mower out, put the mower away, park the car back in the garage, get in the car to go to work on Monday and it won't start.

I experienced this on my '94 850 one time, but I can only vaguely remember anyone posting about it with a red engine. If this is the case, the repeated attempts to start probably resolved the stuck valves and got you going. Since I had my bad experience, I always make sure that I run the engine for a few minutes any time I start it up. I like to at least see the temp needle move a little. Neighbors probably think I am nuts when I drive two or more cars around the block when switching them around in the driveway. Never hurts to run a bottle of Techron through it once in a while.

Good Luck,

Dan
