Distributor problem 120-130

Aidan,

Congrats on getting it running.

The timing won't have much affect on the smoothness of the idle unless it's way off. I recommend that you set it between 15 and 20 BTDC, no further advanced. It's best checked with a timing light, if you have one (and if you don't, an inexpensive model is well worth the cost).

When you installed the SUs, are you sure you didn't introduce an air leak someplace? Manifold gasket, carbs to manifold gaskets, some tubing not hooked up?

Is there fuel in both float bowls? Are two spark plugs white and two dark?

Are the air cleaners on right side up?

Are the throttle shafts snug in the carb bodies, or can you rattle them around?

Do both carbs draw the same amount of air at idle? Viewing with the air cleaners off, do both carb pistons start to rise at the same instant when you open the throttle?
