Hi Phil,
I can't claim the credit - I only followed the instructions - so thanks again.
I've checked the timing with a timing light and my meter shows the idle varying between 650 and 900 RPM. I've got new gaskets between intake manifold and heat shield and between heat shield and carb.
Just thought of something - there's a hole in the intake manifold (prob. for PCV or something) but its not threaded and appears to be solid - are they drilled for PVC or are there gaps that I can't see. Would it be worth putting a dollop of silicone in it?
Its a 003 dizzie with centrifugal advance - no missing tubes...
I didn't check the fuel bowls but adjusting the idle screw or jet on each carb affects the idle (small change in either has the same effect on both carbs)
The spark plugs change from black to white in the centre from #1 to #4 - its a progressive change - they don't group neatly into pairs in terms of colour. The engine has run for only an hour or so today.
Air cleaners are right side up with additional holes mating to face of carb and only three bolt holes visible from top.
Throttle shafts (do you mean linkage?) can move to a small extent where they fit into carb but there's no free play in the carb end. The carbs have just been reconditioned and should be ok - apart from any adjustment.
I spent a good hour on the linkage and throttle connections and I'd be reasonably happy that I got it right (I'm fairly sure but I've never done it before. When I move the throttle linkage it connects wth both carbs at the same time and the pistons seem to move simultaneously.
The distributor cap doesn't seem to fit snugly on the body of the distributor - its an 059 and I suspect should be an 058. There are two washers where the capacitor lead connects to the points - one is metal and one is fibre. They seem to interfere with the fit of the cap to the body. There is some discolouration of the contacts on the cap (its a new cap) but there's no sign of tracking on the cap.
Its a reconditioned distributor so I'm assuming that the capacitor is ok - the misfire isn't apparent at higher revs so that should rule that out.
