The ballast resistor sends info to the suppression relay. I "think" he basically bypassed the suppression relay (it is the same signal) and tricked it into working. I really think you need to look at the connectors on the suppression relay. They fall apart inside, and the relay isn't really connected. Of course if it still says Volvo, and is dated 1989, you got more goody from your relay than alot of people.
