You don't have to have a kit to do a re-ring. Just buy the gasket set and the rings. You might want to change the bearings, too, but they generally hold up well. You won't know if it needs rings or boring until you pull the head, of course. Might want to spec the other blocks and see if they would work with stock pistons and new rings, then just build up a replacement engine.
Total rebuilds aren't cheap. If you have to go that route instead of just a re-ring you have decision to make. If it were me having to do a total rebuild I would go get a B20 and do that one, just because you have more options available for performance, etc.
