The 940 that TnFarm just converted has a 4 link (2 lower control arms, single torque arm, Panhard rod) solid axle in it. I've been told that it's not Dana 30 based however, but something a bit larger. Don't know if that's true. His has a factory 3.73 gear w/LSD. Also don't know if the sheet metal is there on the 960 to allow the straight axle to be bolted in.
He does realize that unless he upgrades to something stouter that the Dana30 isn't likely to be any more stout than what he's got now doesn't he? In fact, if the IRS diff was set up for the 6 cylinder, I'd bet it's stronger than the Dana 30. Just guessing though. Perhaps suspension is his issue, not rear end strength.
