Considering a Volvo V70-XC70 1998

Hi Schleg,

nmorvay's litany of problems is unbelievable.

I've got a '98 S70 and it had the common teething pains--battery, CD player jam, turn signal socket, light switch and airbag ground strap recalls.

They were all fixed under warranty and the car has been trouble free since. Be aware, however, that it does need a TLC to stay in pristine condition. For instance, some of the dash screws worked loose (or were improperly tightened at the factory) causing some rattles & squeaks. With a Haynes Manual and torque wrench I snugged them up. NO more squeakes or rattles.

So, first make sure the car has complete service records and the recalls have been performed. If you get the car, this board will be an invaluable resource for maintaining and troubleshooting the car.

If you don't like to putter around with a car, you must find a good indy or dealer mechanic. While I like my car alot, there are other "near-luxury" maks such as Acura, Infiniti, Lexus, Passat or Audi that require less attention.

Best of luck,

Bryan
