Stick with the FWD. Even in snow and ice, it handles well (much better than any other FWD I've ever driven). Substantial car, good build quality, extremely comfortable. A good value for the money. But here's the caveat: do the regular maintenance on time, and watch for the known trouble spots. These include headlight/turn signal wiring (free fix in recall, check to see if it's been done on your car), ABS/TRACS processor (can develop micro-cracks on the pc board), T-belt & accessories belt at 70K miles, check valve on the airpump (part of the emissions control system). Do regular oil changes, use synthetic.

I'd recommend a GLT with the low-pressure turbo - excellent quickness and authoritative power. Normally aspirated engines are noisier, and the turbo engine is sturdier. Turbos are much more durable in these models and shouldn't pose a concern before 200k miles (see the part about oil changes).

This is fifth Volvo, now with 85K on it, and I love this car. More comfortable than my previous RWD's (240, 745T, 945T, 940GLE), more amenities, more complex. And fun. Good luck.
