Hi Dave,
All of the items that have broken on my 1999 V70XC;
1) Leather came off of 2 different steering wheels. Volvo NA gave me 1 leather and 1 leather/wood steering wheel.
2) Broken engine mount (Replaced 3 so far). Cause of failure was the ETS module caused the engine to turn off in a very rough manor. Complain about Engine running rough to Dealer. Dealer stated this is normal. See item 16 for more detail.
3) Replace transmission valve body to correct poor shifting (help a little but did not fix the problem). Dealer technician forgot to install sub frame spacers. Second trip to have sub frame spacers installed (Car would not steer correctly).
4) Flushed transmission fluid twice due to the transmission running hot and burning the fluid (I install after market oil cooler and paper filter, problem fixed)
5) Replaced transmission temperature sensor.
6) Replaced 4 window switches (driver side was replaced twice).
7) Cracked leather seats. Dealer has agreed to replace.
8) Front-end out of alignment and can not be straighten by Dealer. Wears a set of tires down to the plys every 20K miles. Paid a Carbon Dioxide Commando to fix problem (the 4 sub frame bolts were not tighten enough causing the sub frame to move, hence throwing tow out).
9) Replaced turn signals 3 times until a recall fixed the bulb/socket problem
10) Poor quality, power seat switch broke on both front seats. Dealer refused to replace switches. Technician stated “Found no Problem” even after I demonstrated the failure. I replace the switches.
11) Drivers seat track guide jamming due to no bearing lubrication. Dealer refused to replace track guide. Technician stated “Found no Problem” even after I demonstrated the failure. I repaired the track guide.
12) Transmission shifter broke (Gear shifter jammed in drive, made out of plastic)
13) Ignition key socket replaced. Would not allow the key to be inserted into the ignition switch.
14) Replaced Mass Air Flow sensor. Dealer technicians did not re-install the computer correctly. Second trip back to Dealer to correct problem.
15) Rear window trim fell off (lack of glue replace with new trim).
16) Replaced ETS (Electronic Throttle System) Module. I was lucky; car left me stuck at gas station. This one is a scary failure. When the ETS module went bad the car was Dead! I keep asking myself what would happen if the ETS module failed while I was driving the car? So much for a safe car! Dealer Technician left out bolts holding the radiator cowling on to the radiator. Second trip back to dealer to have bolts installed.
17) Volvo recall correcting head light wiper from getting stuck on wiper stop.
18) Alternator bearing went bad replaced with new alternator.
19) Engine wire harness jacket disintegrated. Replaced jacket
20) Leaks anti-freeze. Replaced 2 hose crimp clamps with screw type clamps. Still leaks anti-freeze. Dealer can not find the leak. I have to add ˝ a liter of coolant every 2 weeks.
Your Call, But this being my first experience with Volvo I would not buy another Volvo again regardless of model or year.
Best of Luck,
Steven---
