Fuel Pressure in a D-jet conversion 120-130

I've cross-posted this to the 1800 forums as well.

I've now got a complete 1971 D-jet system installed in my 1967 122S. I've got no spark (need new coil, waiting on parts) so I can't start the car, but in the meantime I've been trying to verify that fuel is pumping through the system.

I turn the ignition to KPII and hear the relays click and hear the suction back at the tank, but extended cranking puts no fuel into the system. The fuel pump relay is now switching pulling fused power from the battery and I can hear the pump while cranking. When I crank, I can hear the hiss and when I turn the ignition off I hear the hiss as well.

I suspect that there may not be sufficient pressure build up in the fuel tank, but I'm not sure how that works. Is the pressure on the return side or the supply side?

Is my fuel tank cap insufficient to seal the tank? I have a 5-sided waso cap on there now.
