Wow! While looking through the manuals to answer Cameron's post above, I ran across a note in the NSS troubleshooting manual that says you should get about 64 psi if you run the pump against a pinched-off return line. This was ostensibly for all models (4 and 6 cylinder) through 1973. Was your experience with a newer car and therefore maybe a different pump?
