I know this doesnt apply to volvos but it may help.
My 88' lincoln did the same thing no matter how hard you jerked on the handle it would not open. It started with one door and went to all 4 I had to do something or I wasnt going to get in my car much longer. WD40 on the latch in the door did the trick now all I have to do its barley lift on the handle an pop opens the door. I guess the grease was old and the latch wasnt fully unlatching upon lift.
