Thanx for the suggestion, but I don't think it's the same issue. I could have been more clear in my post: it's not that the handle comes up but the latch doesn't open, it's that the handle hits a point of extreme resistance, where its travel stops. Lots of force on the handle will "pop" it past the point of resistance and unlatch the door, but I'm afraid I'm going to break something.
Picture it this way: when you pull slowly on your door handle, it travels without resistance until it actually begins to open the latch, where it hits a point of mechanical resistance. It is at this point where my door handle just seems to stop, unless, that is, I apply lots of force.
