Wonder what an ammeter would have shown when it was running?
Based on my experience with the similar commutator and axial brush arrangement in the AC Delco 240 tank pumps, I would guess you could not tell the difference between this one and a good one with an ammeter. The difference in operation would be just the same as with the 240 transfer pumps - when the brushes landed on a bad spot, the pump simply would not start, until jostled.
On a Regina or other single pump vehicle, this would lead me to a rap on the bottom of the fuel tank to get going again from the parking lot, much the same as we have all done with a worn out starter.
Man, I still can't get over those photos. Won't forget that soon.
