940 In-Tank Fuel Pump Failure: Some Pics

Wow, those are fantastic photos!

Wonder what an ammeter would have shown when it was running?

Based on my experience with the similar commutator and axial brush arrangement in the AC Delco 240 tank pumps, I would guess you could not tell the difference between this one and a good one with an ammeter. The difference in operation would be just the same as with the 240 transfer pumps - when the brushes landed on a bad spot, the pump simply would not start, until jostled.

On a Regina or other single pump vehicle, this would lead me to a rap on the bottom of the fuel tank to get going again from the parking lot, much the same as we have all done with a worn out starter.

Man, I still can't get over those photos. Won't forget that soon.
