I would check all the wires going to the alternator. The wiring on the 240s is practically biodegradable, and where those wires run are exposed to heat and oil seeping. When I replaced the alternator in my 240, I ran all new wires from the starter and firewall to the alternator, including a new ground wire. And make sure the contact for the ground on the block is also clean.
