Well, KGV, I guess we Canucks are doing pretty well, all things considered. I've had two life-threatening conditions cured by expert surgery on the national medicare system, and didn't have to sell my soul, or any of my family to pay for it.
Of course, road conditions may vary according to jurisdictions, along with the weather, traffic density, etc. The Range Rover pothole detector made me LOL, and it inspired my little rant.
As for re-incarnating the 240, that would seem tougher than doing a moon landing. The car Nazis have declared that FWD, ESC and airbags are the greatest inventions since sliced bread, although Chrysler hasn't done too badly with a couple of RWDs. The police here have quite a few Chargers, however, think I may have lately seen a Fusion hybrid squad car - never mind.
IMHO, FWD is a relic of the 1930s when tires were crappy, and FWD seemed to promise better roadholding. The same goes for hanging the engine out back a la Porsche, Tucker and Tatra. Just experiments - the F1 boys finally got it right with mid-engine RWD, however, not practical for a sedan type car.
The mostt we could hope for is to find a car we can like, and try to "tune" it (in the broadest sense) as best we can.
BTW, I learned a new word today [enthymeme]-like an adult version of Sesame St.:-)
