Well make me a liar!
The Volvo parts manual up to 1972 does show the same camshaft for the B20E and F engines so the cam change is not associated with the change to the F engine. I guess I was relying on internet wisdom. I also assumed that since the emission compliance requirements in parts of the US changed in 1972 that the cam change was associated with that.
I don't recall any changes to emission compliance requirements in 1974 (I think unleaded came in 1975?) so was the K cam introduced to improve idle operation with the K jet and its mechanical MAF sensor?
