b20 fuel injected engine conversion 120-130 1968

I am in college and I managed to get it going from some money from a summer internship. My total cost for the conversion was about 1,100 buck plus plenty of little bits I probably didn't count. The more time you have the better deals you can get on used parts. Just start lurking on ebay and craigs list and figure out what a good deal is. I got a complete injection setup from a P1800 for about $250.

I went with megasquirt ($480 for a complete kit plus wiring, plus 8 hours of my soldering time) to avoid some of the reliability problems as megasquirt only reuses the temeperature sensors. I followed some of the previous installs that are documented on the internet (search for megasquirt b20 and volvo). I used the B20F I already had and unplugged the injector ports, but that engine was tired so I had to switch to a B20E, but I had to go with a Corvette oil temp sensor as the B20E head did not have the hole to put in the old djet temp sensor in.

I haven't finished tuning it yet but it idles better than my old worn out SUs ever did. I can give you a better break down of parts needed if you want. As for the tank I just had to take it out and drill it for a bulkhead fitting to add a return line. If you have problems at low fuel levels you can always put in a surge tank.

SUs will give you great performance without a lot of hastle once they are rebuilt properly. But megasquirt is so much more flexible, it can control spark and idle air control, and even water injection if you want to go there and it can handle forced induction applications. The other thing about megasquirt that I like is that if I can adapt the computer to run almost any other electric injection system in case I have to do another engine swap in the future. I am an engineering student so I am just happy to have more stuff to tinker with, not monatarily super practical unless you include better mileage and all of the hours of entertainment value.
