With the MG I removed the motor and trans together and then separated them. So I did it correctly? I guess I shouldn't be surprised? Friggin' British cars...
I have never owned a 240 with auto trans and hopefully I never will. But in looking at the greenbook it seems that pulling the engine is not required. I realize it's probably not as easy as they make it sound but that's all I have to go by.
I've dropped the transmission from all of the four 240's that I have owned and most of them, more than once. The only problem I had with the shifter linkage was on my '89 wagon which had rusted so badly I had to cut the pin that couples the shift lever to the selector rod.
