Yay! I've been campaigning for tighter valve lash for years, and have been running it successfully -- I've certainly pointed out that the "one size fits all" thing is purely for quick service turnaround many times, as is the dismal Green Book adjustment method.
You should now have 1) a much quieter motor, 2) NO pinging (and no cracked valves as a result), 3) much longer cam and lifter life.
I have not used different clearance for intake and exhaust, though. I've had very good luck running a C cam at .012" and a D at .015" (which is actually the design spec for the D). I always set valves with the motor HOT -- they tighten up about .002" from cold. I would go with the manufacturer's recommendations on aftermarket cams, though (also setting them HOT).
