I have a '66 122 and this morning I heard a perculiar noise from the rear. It almost sounds like a squeek or squawk sound when the wheels were turning and especially under braking. Yanking on the wheel I noticed it was a bit loose. So if the worst case scenario is true, I am going to have to pull the shafts and reshim it. I also have a '67 or '68 rear in the garage that has untapered shafts but a 10 spline end. The '66 has tapered shafts but the same 10 spline end. Would it be as easy as pulling the '67 shafts out and installing them with their drums in my '66 rear end (plus shimming and what not)?
Hopefully this makes sense. And hopefully it's not the rear at all, but I haven't had a chance to look yet.
