My situation is similar in that I have two young boys, one who has his license now. Both of my current Volvos have airbags. My older son and I have been looking for a third car and saftey is #1. Although the pre airbag Volvos are engineered for saftey, having a Volvo with a drivers' side bag makes it a safer car in my opinion. The problem with first hand stories of survival is that they eliminate a response from those whose head trauma prevents them from participating in this discussion.
