This is very strange. I have never lost a bulb in my '98 S70 since new. I hear people lose them all the time. I suspect there is something other than too much voltage on these bulbs to make them go early (like the recall suggests). If you had the recall done and are still burning out bulbs, this would support my suspicion. I do not run DRLs, this may be one reason, but still, 3 years on the original bulbs. Even without DRLs, I think some people burn them out early. I thinkl there may be some spiking in the electrical system at some points. Maybe that hunk of harness everyone calls resistor is actually a cap to absorb the occasional spikes? Anyone know for sure?
I had my car in for some unrelated issues and they performed the recall automatically, so now I too have a new set of bulbs and a "resistor" as well as new front turn signal sockets and bulbs. Funny, I only had a problem with my turn signals blinking too fast once and I use my turn signals to their fullest all the time. Maybe it's because that particular problem didn't irritate me as much as it did most people? I would just clean and rotate the bulb in the turn signal socket and it never happened again.
Cheers
