I'm not sure that I can be very specific about verifying the exciter wire since this was something I did a few months ago, trying to track down this problem on my own. Regardless, here goes.
I followed the advice of another poster on this message board and opened the gray connector at the firewall. There I found where the exciter wire plugs into the gray connector and then ran a new wire from that point down to the alternator (over the top of the engine, since it was just a test).
Upon several starts of the engine, I would get the dash warning lights to come on probably 95% - 98% of the time, but every so often I would only get the oil light to come on.
This was pretty much the same result that I got with the regular engine harness exciter wire hooked up.
I hope this information helps you out in tracking down my problem. If you need anything else, let me know.
Thanks,
Dave
