Hey guys, thanks for all of the replies...
I think we've finally tracked down the problem(s).
First of all, it does appear that my problem was a bad battery.
When my daughter went to pick the car up and said it was "doing the same thing" that simply meant that it wouldn't start in teenage daughter speak.
It did NOT mean that it wouldn't crank over....simply that it didn't start WHILE cranking over.
Now I finally got this information out of her, after the mechanic had been scratching his head for a couple of extra hours. He wasn't too thrilled with the bad information. :-)
While checking things out, he did find a problem with the starter...the bendix.
While he didn't feel this would cause the problem described before, he did recommend replacing it.
He also tracked down a bad connection at the coil which was probably the reason that the car wouldn't start for my daughter the night she went to pick it up.
I do appreciate all of the help and I'm sorry I am just now getting back to this post. I have been down all weekend with a head cold and this car was about the farthest thing from my mind.
Thanks again for all of the suggestions and the help and sorry for all of the confusion.
Dave
