Intermittent electrical problem 200 1986

I'm with you - I don't think it's a charging or battery problem. I suspect connections.

I've had similar problems with a 3-4 cars in the last couple of years. In one case the wire in the + terminal to the battery was loose inside the lead. In another a solenoid wire was broken internally. In another is was a broken ground to the motor.

The giveaway to me was the incident where she hit the brake and something went off or on.

I have cars & farm equipment that sit around a lot and this is common. Volvos - all euro cars - seem to have these kinds of problems often.

So: clean both battery terminals & connectors; remove and clean the main lead to the starter; check the two main grounds from the battery - remove and clean also.
