Please don't say stuff like that. I had to work my balls of to get my "90 244. I can't afford to add those sport luxuries i'd enjoy...

Man, I want to cry... snif!

Volks are good cars, but here in Québec diesel fuel is sometimes more expensive than gas. So 10 years ago I would have jumped on the diesel to save some money. Come to think of it, I did own a 1985 golf diesel. I called it "la tortue" ,the turtle. (No need to explain I guess) Todays TDI's are close to gas engines as for acceleration, but as Steeve mentioned, look at your commute to see if a diesel is justifiable. On the other hand, if mom and dad purchase the car for you, get a 5.0 mustang and floor it. If gas is all you have to pay...
