Hi Rene,

No offense to all the other 700 owners (I just unloaded mine for a '96 Jetta) but I would go with the Jetta unless your parents are also supplying the gas for the turbo. I've been driving in Toronto enough times to see the fuel prices up there (I thought LA was bad!) You can check the jetta fuel economy on the VW website. I've had my Jetta for 6 months now and no major problems. I would advise to get the manual transmission (the auto is a little quirky and weird...)I also had to have a flange replaced (about $200 part) since I was loosing water and couldn't figure out where it was coming from. All in all, its a pretty peppy car for a small engine. I just did an autocross in mine last weekend.
