A fuel injection system running with O2 sensor feedback can keep a tight rein on the fuel mixture, keeping it much close to stochimetric in a variety of operating conditions than a carb can. And with an FI system with feedback you could put a catalytic convertor on, if the regulations ever become more restrictive on old cars. A carb would just plug or burn up a cat sooner or later.
