Phil's recommendations were right on. I'm happy with the motor. It IS faster. It IS more fun. It ISN'T a camaro. :)
The exhaust thing:
One of my biggest mistakes was not doing more research before I had someone weld up the exhaust. The local Meineke was far from ideal considering what I ended up spending. That is its own horror story... 2 mufflers was not in the original plan but evolved out of my low tolerance for noise.
Djet:
I still think the decision to retain the Djet was a good one. It has worked surprisingly well for everyday driving and saved me a lot of variables in getting this motor started up and to the point it is at now. I've got 5000 miles on the rebuild and it has been great transportation. I admit I did not clearly understand the problems I would encounter when trying to get the motor into a good tune but that was for me to figure out. I think (my opinion) is that the time and trouble it would take to get the Djet to do what I want is just not worth it. Megasquirt (or other modern systems) are better suited. The resolution available (MAP vs. TPS position vs. RPM) will take some mystery out of the process.
This dyno operator was pretty smart. He gave me extra runs I did not pay for. Not priggish or meathead at all.
