LOL! You need to take off another 9mm before they start to come close, are you seriously suggesting that someone would be that silly? In stock form when the timing gear fails, the valves all clear the pistons, even at full lift.
Hmmm... In the photo below, we see the results of a badly stretched/broken rod that allowed a piston to contact the head. Also note the very distinct impressions left by the valves in the top of the piston. This was with the B20E head (at about 3.30" height), a zero-decked block, and "D" cam. This is why I asked the question about valve-to-piston clearance in the first place.
